Thomas was one of the six sons of Joseph and Mary Bennett of Cemetery Road, the Bennetts had twelve children in all and the family were Pawnbrokers. Thomas married Ada Spivey in 1908 and they had one daughter - Clarice. Before the war Thomas worked as a Pawnbroker in Westtown, Dewsbury for nine years and lived in Savile Town. He joined the Coldstream Guards in 1916 and had been in France for three months before he was killed. He was a Stretcher Bearer and died whilst attending a wounded soldier. Three of his brothers also served in the army and one, Joseph, was killed six weeks after Thomas died. {PL-016} |
